The Atlantic Boychoir is the first and only Provincial choir of boys and young men in Canada founded by Jennifer and Jakub Martinec in August 2016.
The Singing Ambassadors of Newfoundland and Labrador are selected singers from across the Province that are inspired by the famous European model of SATB boy-choir singing known in Europe for Centuries. The ABC provides artis-tic training for over 120 boys and young men from the age of 4 to 22 in four choral centres across Newfoundland.
The repertoire includes both traditional and modern works of both Canadian and International composers, famous classical compositions from all musical periods and large choral works, Newfoundland folk songs, contemporary music and choral arrangements of popular music.
The artistic director and principal conductor is Dr. Jakub Martinec, Young Men Ensemble conductor, vocal coach and co-artistic founding director Jennifer Beynon-Martinec, concert choir pianists Drs. Jennifer Matthews and David Chafe. The training boy choirs, Atlantic Puffins and Atlantic Pelicans are directed by Lisa Drover (St. John’s), Linda Carr (Corner Brook, Pasadena), Michelle Rowe Bennett and Charlene Woolfrey Sawler (Clarenville).
The ABC would like to be recognized for the high level of choral excellence and its stable unique sound quality created by the uni-form voice training.
This past concert season took ABC on tour to Europe with concerts in Prague, Tabor, Budweis, Vienna, Munich and Nuremberg. The season included cooperation with Cantus Vocum Chamber Choir (Chad Stride), Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (Marc David), Nurnberger Symphoniker (Lucius Hemmer) and the world famous The King’s Singers. In October 2018 choir released Christmas CD featuring John Rutter’s masterpiece “Gloria”. In 2019 choir will share the stage with the five time Grammy winning vocal group The Swingles (UK) and will tour to France, UK and USA.
The Atlantic Boychoir is also the host choir of the National Boychoir of Canada.
